The choice of library books at the JJC is limited. We disagree with this finding. The Juvenile Hall library contains approximately 8,000 books from which youth can choose. The library cycles out books that are not selected for reading, and continually adds current literature appropriate and/or popular for youth.

The method of requesting books at the Juvenile Hall be modified to include the ability to request a genre. This recommendation has been implemented, as it has already been the practice. As stated above, the Juvenile Hall has several mechanisms to obtain books from its library. Youth are able to express interest in a particular genre in order to obtain several books to choose from on the units. Sincerely Røbert M. Ochs Chief Probation Officer Sonoma County Probation Department RMO/dr .

The JJC process for requesting a book requires knowledge of the book's title or author. We disagree with this finding. The Juvenile Hall process does not require knowledge of a book's title or author. A book request sheet is posted on the unit for those who know the title or author. In addition, a library volunteer visits each unit weekly and takes requests from the residents. When the resident does not know any titles or authors, the library volunteer explores with the youth what kind of book he/she would be interested in (mystery, fantasy, romance, etc.) and attempts to find something to match his/her interests. ☐ Adult Probation Services ☐ Juvenile Probation Services ☐ Juvenile Hall 600 Administration Dr. 104J 7425 Rancho Los Guilicos Rd 7425 Rancho Los Guilicos Rd Santa Rosa, CA 95403 Dept.
