Each Contra Costa County school district board should consider developing a plan to identify organizations that provide CPR and First Aid certification refresher training for district teachers, by December 31, 2020. This recommendation will not be implemented at this time because there 0 is neither a legal obligation nor the resources available to implement such training districtwide. The District has multiple relevant job descriptions that may require CPR and First Aid training including: special needs paraprofessionals, student activities and healthcare technicians, bus drivers, bus driver dispatchers, site safety personnel, school nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and all athletic coaches. All physical education teachers participate in Lifeguard CPR training. Education Code 49413 provides that a district MAY provide such trainings. The safety of our students and employees is always our top priority. A component of the district's CPR training includes how the above-referenced employees learn to operate the strategically stationed Automated External Defibrillators (AED) across the District's campuses. We feel confident we can continue to promote the safety of our students and employees and not require or sponsor CPR and First Aid training for our teachers. Antioch Unified School District employs a full-time Registered Nurse as the Coordinator of Health Services. This position oversees 11 licensed vocational nurses and trains annually. The Coordinator of Health Services organizes and conducts annual trainings for each school site's staff annually. All school sites and nurses are trained annually which includes Diabetes, Epi pen administration, Asthma, Seizures, and Protocol for medication administration. All nurses are trained annually which includes Diabetes, Epi pen administration, Asthma, Seizures, Protocol for medication administration, Tube feeding, Insulin administration, Wheelchair safety, and COVID 19 protocol for exclusion of students/staff suspected of having a respiratory infection (new this year). We will offer the district teachers an opportunity to voluntarily sign-up for CPR and/or First Aid trainings and refresher trainings. Moreover, in accordance with current state laws, teachers and other District employees are required to receive mandated child abuse, sexual harassment and suicide prevention trainings on an ongoing basis. The District fulfills these requirements with fidelity.
