R6Page 1R6-Crime Lab should provide the same training to city law enforcement agencies for handling DNA evidence as they do for Sheriff Deputies. This recommendation will require further review. The Morro Bay Police Department currently utilizes the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Department personnel and Crime Lab resources for all major crime scene investigations. Morro Bay PD would welcome any additional training from the SLO County Sheriff Crime Lab related to the preservation and collection of DNA evidence. Morro Bay PD will work with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff to determine the best course of action to develop and obtain this additional training for all front-line patrol and investigations personnel. This recommendation will require development of a training course outline, increased training costs and review of our department policies/procedures to insure the required training meets California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements. I will work with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Department and the Criminal Justice Administrators Association on accomplishing this recommendation.
