The impact of SB 277 on school districts in Orange County was minimal. Districts were prepared and staffed with well trained personnel. Response to Finding 1: Newport-Mesa Unified School District agrees with the finding. Newport-Mesa Unified School District was prepared to handle the impact of SB277 with trained staff and responded by notifying families regarding the immunization requirements. Newport-Mesa Unified School District has implemented a continuous system to monitor school immunization requirements and trained personnel track students with immunization needs.

School Districts should continue to track students with grandfathered personal belief exemptions to ensure these students have the required vaccinations before they reach the next reporting levels.

There were very few problems that arose with medical exemptions for vaccinations. Health clerks and school nurses were able to handle any discrepancies. Response to Finding 2: Newport-Mesa Unified School District agrees with the finding. School nurses and health clerks have implemented a system to document medical exemptions.

School Nurses, LVNs, and health clerks directly notified the parents of students with vaccinations lapses and those requiring boosters for pre-K, kindergarten, and 7^{th} grade well in advance of the due dates. Response to Finding 5: Newport-Mesa Unified School District agrees with the finding. A process was and continues to be in place whereby the Newport-Mesa Unified School District staff notify families of students with vaccination needs well in advance of due dates or as soon as the lapse is discovered.
