Drug use today has a more severe impact on the physical and mental health of inmates than in the past. Conclusion The Placer County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Health and Human Services consider the health and welfare of inmates a top priority. Although there were many bidders, CFMG has been awarded the contract for the past 23 years and is considered to be competent. Sheriff’s Department personnel continuously train to recognize the symptoms of mental illness. Despite the burdens placed on jail personnel, they work diligently to innovate and implement programs to help the inmates. When inmates are released, they’re given treatment plans and prescriptions as needed. However, they are no longer under the supervision of the jail staff and may opt not to take the medications or take advantage of available resources. - 59 - -2017 Final Report
