The MCJ present staff consists of 49 personnel: one Captain; three Sergeants; eight Corporals; 0 37 Correctional Officers; five Sheriff Booking Technicians; one Inmate Services Cterk who co-ordinates programs; one Kitchen Manager and two cooks; one Custodial Supervisor, who manages the laundry; an Accounting Specialist for the commissary and inmate money accounts; * one Office Assistant li, who manages the jail records; and three retired Officers who transport inmates to court, and do other duties as required. Eight of the staff are bilinguaf in Spanish. Response (Chief Executive Officer): The County Executive Office disagrees padially with this Finding. Budget Unit kt2510, Jail, has 80 allocated positions. Some are stationed at the Coudhouse, some may have been vacant, It is unclear what the referenced 49 positions represent. Response (Mendoeino County Sheriff's Office): The Mendocino County Sheriff's Ofice disagrees parIially with Finding #IT.h e staffing level cited by the Grand Jury may have been accurate at the time they conducted their inspection, but happily the numbers have changed. The jail now has 43 of its 46 Corredions Deputy positions filled. The repsrl: lists five booking technicians. The correct title is Sherifs Services Technicians, and currently there are three. Two former Technicians promoted to Corrections Deputy. In addition to one full-time kitchen manager and ta~ofu ll-time cooks, we also have one extra-help cook. 2. -The capacity of the Mendocino County jail is 305 inmates. At the time of the initial Grand Jury visit the population was 210 inmates. Temporary beds are available for those occasions when the jail's capacity is exceeded. In 2006, one case of tuberculosis, 22 cases of sexually transmitted disease, and 46 cases of drug resistant staphylococcus were identified.
