Response Procedure to Grand Jury Reports*

"A Coast Sector deputy sheriff generates approximately 20 hours of overtime every two weeks" I partially disagree with this finding. After a review of the Overtime Recap spreadsheet, a Coast Sector deputy averages 10 hours of overtime every two weeks.

"Storage space for evidence inadequate". I disagree wholly with this finding. We are planning to add evidence personnel to increase the rate of evidence purging. Increasing the rate of purging will make the space of the evidence storage room more functional and efficient. It will also be a more cost effective than construction of a new room. Additional analysis will done to physically upgrade the existing space.

"The Coast Sector Holding Facility lacks an audio monitoring System" I partially disagree with this finding. Since the Grand Jury inspection, an audio monitoring system has been installed in both holding cells.

"The handicapped rails, benches, air duct screens, wall panel, and faucet handles could be used by a prisoner to hang him/herself" I partially disagree with this finding. General Services has completed 95% of this project since the Grand Jury tour of the facility. It will be completed by mid-March. "The central heating and cooling system in the Sheriff's Coast

Sector Sub-Station is inadequate". I partially disagree with this finding. General Services has completed upgrades to the heating and air-conditioning system. Historically, there have been problems with the heating and air- conditioning system. We will have to wait and see how the system functions in the summer months prior to rendering a decision on replacement.
