Approximately 160 juveniles per month need crisis intervention. Additionally, 132 juvenile wards need daily mental health services. Limited facilities are available to house youths with mental health and psychiatric needs in the juvenile justice system of Sacramento County. This inability frequently requires sending juveniles out of the area to San Francisco, Vallejo, Modesto and Los Angeles in order to house them within a psychiatric facility at significant additional cost to the county.
