Recommendations 1
-
R5Page 12) By December 31, 2012, the Sheriff's Department and city police departments should evaluate and update their programs on responding to elder abuse cases. This recommendation has been implemented by the Seal Beach Police Department. The Seal Beach Police Department does have a specific elder abuse policy. This policy is reviewed and evaluated by staff annually and updated if necessary. The Police Department will conduct specific briefing training on elder abuse topics five times during 2012. The Seal Beach Police Department continually trains field personnel on how to identify elder abuse victims. The Investigative staff is routinely trained on how to identify elder abuse via economic crime since this is the most common form of abuse in Seal Beach. The City of Seal Beach does have a large demographic of senior citizens who reside in a large retirement community. The Seal Beach Police Department is always working with our stakeholders on updating and/or creating new programs to address elder abuse cases. We appreciate the informative report and the attention to a very important and often unreported crime. Respectfully, KEITH KILMER, CHIEF OF POLICE
