The impact of SB277 on school districts in Orange County was minimal. Districts were prepared and staffed with well trained personnel. Agree - District Nurses and Office personnel were informed and trained prior to the implementation of SB277.

School districts should continue to track students with grandfathered personal belief exemptions to ensure these students have the required vaccinations before they reach the next reporting levels. The recommendation has been implemented - Fullerton School District continues to monitor and run reports through our student information system. Students entering the next grade span and part of the grandfathered personal beliefs exemption group received notification from school nurses, health aides and office staff regarding SB277 and required immunizations. Individual phone calls have been made by school nurses for students who have not yet received immunizations and entering the next grade span prior to the end of the 2016-2017 school year. Parent notifications through mail, email, and BlackBoard ConnectEd telephone system will be utilized during the summer to remind parents well enough in advance of required immunizations for the next grade span.

There were very few problems that arose with medical exemptions for vaccinations. Health clerks and school nurses were able to handle any discrepancies. Districts should continue to monitor student vaccinations percentages to maintain the threshold defined by the CDPH. The recommendation has been implemented - The Fullerton School District runs regular reports of vaccination percentages in order to maintain the threshold defined by the CDPH. A report is sent to the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) in December for additional monitoring of school district percentages. Fullerton School District nurses work collaboratively to ensure each site meets the required threshold and percentages by contacting, informing and reminding parents of SB277 law. Personal belief exemptions that were grandfathered in are professionally tracked with timely notification to parents as to when vaccinations are due to be completed. Agree - School nurses monitor personal belief exemptions that were grandfathered through the district's student information system database. Nurses and office staff contacted parents regarding immunization requirements, including next grade span compliance, in preparation for next school year.

Orange County school districts made every effort to make vaccination information available using social media, direct mailings and links on school websites to clinics in the area. Agree - Fullerton School District website hosts information regarding SB277, shotforschools.org, parent letters/newsletters/flyers, and location of clinics within the area. Parents were also notified through Blackboard ConnectEd, voice and email phone system regarding SB277 requirements.

School nurses, LVN's and health clerks directly notified the parents of students with vaccination lapses and those requiring boosters for pre-K, kindergarten and 7th grade well in advance of the due dates. Agree - School nurses, health aides and office personnel directly contacted parents through phone calls and reminder letters to inform them of upcoming boosters in advance of due dates.
